AirBNB – Dara was such an incredible host! The listing has a really bomb terrace with great views of the surrounding neighborhood and is less than a ten minute walk to the beach. The apartment is in a very walkable neighborhood with food, bars, supermarkets, banks and shops in walking distance.
I rented a car from Dollar through Expedia. There was a shuttle from the airport that made for a seamless experience.
We ate at some really incredible spots:
LA CUEVA DEL MAR: Loiza (between Aponte & Las Flores) – Fresh fish and seafood
PANUCHOS: Loiza & Diez de Andino – Mexican restaurant and dive bar (Happy Hour 4 pm – 8 pm)
Shops we loved:
Gemileo: Amazing selection of spirits and wine with friendly and knowledgable service from Ray.
Moni & Coli: Cute shop with quality pieces for a reasonable price. Not cheap, but also not wildly expensive.
Places of note:
Old San Juan: take a taxi or an uber. we drove down early evening, around 6p or 7p and it took a while to find parking. I can envision it being even more difficult to find parking during the day when it’s busier.
Luis Muñoz Rivera Park: The cohost of the AirBNB Carlos set up surprise picnic for us! I paid him for said service, and he did a great job choosing the location. The park is beautiful and has a lot of peaceful little pockets perfect for a somewhat private picnic. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the AirBNB, and parking can be a bit difficult in this area as well. The park has nice bike and walking paths too.
La Cubanita: A cute divey bar in Old San Juan. Nothing of particular note here, but the wings ordered here are from La Factoria and they are AMAZING.
