Ep 27. Souvenirs and Cultural Appropriation

Cultural appropriation. What is THE line that takes something from admiration to appropriation? People of color, do you feel a way when you see white faces surrounded by smiling African children in the name of mission work? Do you feel a way when you and an unnamed white woman are standing in line to buy the same handwoven poncho in Cancun? Experiencing different cultures on vacay often leads to buying souvenirs. Is that cultural appropriation too? Or is it only appropriation when you’re claiming it’s something it’s not?
